These plates are wood fired.
Usually this type of glaze would be once fired (fired green) for 2 days with Japanese red pine in the mountains of Nara Japan. Not these plates. I got busy and didn't bother opening the second room, where I fire the black glaze, and only opened it after firing the whole kiln 8 times. These are probably the only types of this glaze fired 8 times in a wood fired kiln around. The glaze is a single ingredient glaze called kimachi. It is a type of stone that has been crushed and used pure. There are many subtle variations in the glaze. It goes from an orangish to a matte black This glaze is one of my favorites from what I do.
