was incorporated as a Town on July 20, 1881. 
The Town of West Union is the County Seat of Doddridge County, West Virginia

OBVERSE (front) of this Commemorative Coin displays the Town of West Union Seal featuring depictions of:

the historic Doddridge County Courthouse clock-tower.  The present Courthouse was built in 1904, after a devastating fire in West Union destroyed the precious one.
Middle Island Creek, which passes through west Union is the longest creek in the world.
the old West Union covered bridge.  The devastating flood of 1950, in which many citizens were killed, saw the destruction of the covered bridge.  The new bridge is not covered, but there are grass-roots movements to restore this historical marker.
the B & O trestle - now a part of the Northbend Rail Trail, the trestle provides a scenic view of Middle Island Creek and the surrounding grounds.
the cannon and American flag by the Doddridge County Wall of Honor.  The DC Wall of Honor contains over 3,000 names of Doddridge County veterans of the Armed Services.  Doddridge County ahs provided more servicemen per capita than any other county in the USA.
NOTE: the four stars under the cannon are in honor of Four-Star General John Craddock, who is a West Union Native Son

REVERSE (back) is dated 1881 - 2006 for the 125th Anniversary of the Town of West Union.  The notable Town of West Union native sons who were chosen to be on this coin are:

Ephraim Bee - one of the first WV Legislators, founder of the ECV Society (now over 150,000 members worldwide)
General John Craddock - a Four-Star General, over the Southern Command at the time of the coin minting, General Craddock has now been proposed commander of NATO forces in Europe.
Nathan Davis - moved to Lewisport, WV in 1807 and worked tirelessly to establish this as the County Seat of Doddridge and to incorporate as the Town of West Union.
Joseph Dis DeBar - a notable American artist, designer of the State Seal of WV (which is unchanged to this day)
Clyde Ware - author, screenwriter, director, producer.
