Chip & Dale 1950s original production cel. Art Corner Label.

This listing is for a Chip & Dale 1950's era production cel. Piece is a Art Corner cel with the original Suiver envolope and the protective wax paper.  Cel size is 9 x 12 inches, with the characters being 3 3.5 inches.  The characters are all hand painted with hand INKED lines (best kind of ink lines).

Art Corner Cels are nice to collect because they were originally distributed at Disneyland Art Corner Store in Tomorrowland. People like them because of their established Providence. Cel is hand painted and hand inked. Cels from the 50s were Inked, cels from the 1960's and on were all Xeroxed Ink lines. This piece is more for an established collector who appreciate vintage animation art and all of it's valuable one-of-kind aspects.

Disneyland Art Corner Store
Cels sold at Disneyland's Art Corner Shop in Tomorrowland from the mid 1950's to the late 1960's. These cels are trimmed, placed in a small matt against either a lithograph background or a sheet of coloured paper. A gold seal is attached to the back of the matt which is the authenticating sticker.

Piece is know as a ART CORNER piece that was originally Sold at Disneyland in The Art Corner Store on Main Street USA.

Brief HISTORY of the Disneyland Art Corner Shop
In 1955, the year Disneyland opened, in a section of Tomorrowland there was a area now long gone called “The Art Corner” which sold Disney animation cels from films such as Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty, 101 Dalmatians, Mickey Mouse Club and cels from various shorts. The place was full of bins of cels that customers could paw through at will (yes, that's how it was described to me by someone who was there, and bought plenty of them)--everything from "Alice In Wonderland" to "Peter Pan", "Sleeping Beauty", numerous TV programs and shorts, etc.  These cels were selected by studio artist, from the 1000’s of cels created for a production, based on attractiveness. Cels were the character (s) were Not good looking, were discarded. So only the Best ones were allowed out of the market. Every Art Corner Cel was matted and a Gold Art Corner Label attached to the backing. This label is what makes Art Corner Pieces so valuable.
The First "ART of Animation" was an Exhibit in Tomorrowland right next to the Art Corner Shop.
Intergraded into the shop was an “Art of Animation” Display.  The Disneyland Attraction for the brief "Art of Animation" display that was stationed in--of all places--Tomorrowland from 1960-1966. The Art of Animation and The Art Corner were closed 1966. Way was made for the New Tomorrowland. The Art Corner Store was moved over to Main Street USA, within the Disneyana Shop. The selection and interest began to diminish and the bins & displays got smaller until they just disappeared from the shelves in the early 1970s.

Chip 'n' Dale are two fictional, animated chipmunks created by The Walt Disney Company. Their names are a pun based on the name "Chippendale" (see Thomas Chippendale).  According to Disney, Chip is the logical schemer, and Dale is the dumb schemer. An easy way to tell them apart is that Chip has a black nose and one centered protruding tooth, whereas Dale has a red nose and his two prominent canines exposed.     They first appeared in the cartoon Private Pluto (1943) where they antagonize the dog Pluto.

They were major Antagonists of Donald Duck.
They didn't get their names (or the traits that separate them) until the cartoon Chip an' Dale (1947) where they antagonize Donald Duck. Chip is the (slightly) more intelligent one with the black nose, and Dale is the one with the red nose and gapped teeth. They continued to appear in animated cartoons, usually annoying/terrorising Donald, until the mid-1950s.

Two Chips and a Miss
Chip 'n' Dale struggled for the affections of another chipmunk, Clarice, a performer at the Acorn Club, in "Two Chips and a Miss" (1951). After much battling between the two, she chooses neither one.

Voice Actors
Both modern-day Chip and Dale are often voiced by Tress MacNeille, but there have been a few times were Tress would only voice Chip, while Dale would be voiced by Corey Burton, as heard in Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers. The classic voices of Chip 'n' Dale were mostly provided by Helen Silbert, Dessie Flynn/Dessie Miller, and James "Jimmy" MacDonald. The earliest voices were provided by female office staff, without credit.
