Check out my other items!
A LARGE image of a Really ticked off Donald Duck from the 1950's.
Piece is an Original, Hand Painted, hand Inked original production cel from the 1950s. The Cel is hand painted and hand inked. Cels from the 50s were Inked, cels from the 1960's and on were all xeroxed Ink lines. Cel size is 6.5 x 9.5 inches with the characters cover most of the cel at 6.5 x 8.5 inches. Cel is in really good shape for its age. Some minor paint chippng as you can see int he photos (which is normal for a cel of this vintage). This Art Corner Cel is complete with matting and Art Corner Label on the back.
Piece is hand signed by the vocie of Donald Duck...Tony Anselmo. Very rare. Signing was witness in-person by Tooncity. This is a Art Conrer Set-up, original SOLD at Disneyland in the 1950's. Art Corner Pieces are Premimum pieces to collect as it was the Only Official Disney Art Program from 1955 to the mid 1970s.
Vintage cels such as this one are not recommended for New collectors, because production cels by definition are NOT perfect pieces of art. Most New collectors are expecting PERFECTION such as you see in sericels. Production cels cannot be PERFECT because they have been used in the making of a film or short. They just happen to look good as one-of-a kind artwork. This Cel is hand painted and hand inked and is all created by HAND in the 1950's. Cels from the 50s were Inked, cels from the 1960's and on were all Xeroxed Ink lines. This piece is more for an established collector who appreciate vintage animation art and all of it's valuable one-of-kind aspects. As you can see in the photos, there is some small area of paint flaking, but this is typical for a cel of this vintage. Becasue hand painting will have flaws, the inperfections of this piece make it more collectible.
Why are hand Inked cel like this one so desirable? Starting in the 1960's characters were transferred onto the cel via a machine Xerography process. With hand Inking, characters were transferred via a hand and a paint brush which is a more artistic desirable for the cel.
Comes with 2 Certificates of Authenticity
Brief HISTORY of the Disneyland Art Corner Shop
In 1955, the year Disneyland opened, in a section of Tomorrowland there was a area now long gone called “The Art Corner†which sold Disney animation cels from films such as Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty, 101 Dalmatians, Mickey Mouse Club and cels from various shorts. The place was full of bins of cels that customers could paw through at will (yes, that's how it was described to me by someone who was there, and bought plenty of them)--everything from "Alice In Wonderland" to "Peter Pan", "Sleeping Beauty", numerous TV programs and shorts, etc. These cels were selected by studio artist, from the 1000’s of cels created for a production, based on attractiveness. Cels were the character (s) were Not good looking, were discarded. So only the Best ones were allowed out of the market. Every Art Corner Cel was matted and a Gold Art Corner Label attached to the backing. This label is what makes Art Corner Pieces so valuable.
The First "ART of Animation" was an Exhibit in Tomorrowland right next to the Art Corner Shop.
Intergraded into the shop was an “Art of Animation†Display. The Disneyland Attraction for the brief "Art of Animation" display that was stationed in--of all places--Tomorrowland from 1960-1966. The Art of Animation and The Art Corner were closed 1966. Way was made for the New Tomorrowland. The Art Corner Store was moved over to Main Street USA, within the Disneyana Shop. The selection and interest began to diminish and the bins & displays got smaller until they just disappeared from the shelves in the early 1970s.
