Little Journeys to the Homes of Eminent Artists: BELLINI by Elbert Hubbard Roycrofters' 1902 Limited Edition in Limp Suede Binding Roycrofters, East Aurora, New York: number 108 of 940 copies of this limited edition. First thus, pages numbered 57-77 (as these were issued in serial form, but the book is complete). Limp brown suede covers with yapp edges (extending past the boards), with tooled gilt leather inset panels to front, brown watered silk pastedowns, handmade paper, decorative woodcut title page and chapter initials designed by Samuel Warner and hand illumined in several colors. Frontis. portrait of Bellini with tissue guard. Suede shows just a little erosion/flaking along turndowns (inner edge of covers) - VG condition as these Roycroft suede bindings tend to deteriorate after a 100 years. Front silk pastedown is slightly frayed, has on it a handsome owner's bookplate (which blocked acid transfer from the cloth, so that there is a white square on the endpaper opposite the bookplate, otherwise the endpaper is browned). Binding is complete and intact, pages clean. Rare in the limited edition, this is the only copy of such online. An excellent example of the work of the Roycrofters. Please request photos if desired.
