19th Century Antique Javanese Betel Nut Server

Authentic, crafted from wood and brass. In original condition. A repair has been done to the cover, and there is some other wear that is pictured that is consistent with the age of this item.
The tools are brass and the tray is crafted of very heavy teak wood, banded with brass.
This Betel Nut server was found in East Java. Trays like this are used to serve gust betel nut or Sirih as it is known as in Indonesia. It is a very important part of many of the diverse cultures of Indonesia. The nut of the areca palm (also called the betel nut) is combined with lime (the calcium-containing substance found in limestone and oyster shells, not the citrus fruit) and rolled in a betel leaf. Served to guest and also given as part of a bridal dowry even today as a symbol of unity.

SHIPPING
We will ship your item with in 3 days of receiving a cleared payment. In most cases we will ship the same day payment clears. When we can, we ship USPS priority mail, cost includes confirmation/tracking number. Insurance is optional. If buyer opts out of optional insurance, the buyer assumes all responsibility for lose or damage while in transit. On larger pieces we use UPS as this is more cost effective for the buyer. When an item is shipped UPS shipping cost will include tracking and insurance.
PAYMENT
We accept Pay Pal, USPS money orders, If you are using money order as form of payment, please contact us first.
RETURNS
Any claims must be made with in 7 days of receiving your order. Please contact us first. Your item may be exchanged or you may opt for a refund less shipping and handling charges. Buyer is also responsible for any return shipping cost.
